Theoretical content, text excerpts, and examples of communication messages will be shared with participants to ensure they have a minimum knowledge base. Discussions may also take place with the trainers in order to assess each participant’s context and level.

SESSION 1 | MASTERING ASSERTIVENESS FOR EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

A. BALANCING SELF-ASSERTION AND EMPATHY

  • Discussion of participants’ everyday situations regarding their ability to assert themselves and to oppose,

  • As a group, definition of the stakes and binary “yes/no” consequences during decision-making and its communication,

  • Building the Yes <> No axis on the Self-assertion <-> Empathy axis,

  • Discovery of and work on the 3rd dimension, assertiveness, making it possible to move beyond a binary relationship to build value together,

  • Setting up action plans to listen, convince, and engage interlocutors.

B. KNOWING HOW TO LISTEN

  • Role-play scenario setup,

  • Work on identifying harmful listening behaviors,

  • Discovery of the room for maneuver available in response to harmful listening behaviors,

  • Implementation of concrete action plans to streamline communication when faced with harmful listening,

  • Work on active listening to inspire trust.

C. MANAGING CONFLICT IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT

  • Conflict-management simulation,

  • Discovery of the 6-point methodology: From emotional to rational,
